Day to Day Itinerary
DAY 1:
Start of safari in Windhoek, Namibia – We depart from Windhoek early in the morning, heading towards the Palmwag Concession, where we’ll arrive in the late afternoon. The freshwater springs at Palmwag Concession support thriving populations of desert-adapted wildlife. You might spot dwarf antelope like Steenbok and Klipspringer, Hartmann’s Mountain Zebra, Southern Giraffe, Gemsbok (Oryx), Springbok, Kudu, inquisitive Ground Squirrels, Black-backed Jackal, and Small Spotted Genet. The concession is also rich in reptiles, including the Kaokoveld Sand Lizard and Anchieta’s Agama. We’ll rest and prepare for tomorrow’s early start on our five-night walking safari.
*An additional night at Palmwag before the safari can be arranged.
DAY 2-6:
Rhino Tracking on Palmwag Concession (Overnight: Palmwag Concession Camping) – After breakfast, we’ll depart from Palmwag Lodge and head to the campground where our trek begins, following a detailed briefing from the Save the Rhino Rangers. Each day’s schedule will vary, blending walking excursions with game drives, and we’ll break for lunch at the campsite.
The Save the Rhino Team scouts will be our exclusive guides in this region, which is off-limits to other tourists. Since we’ll be monitoring the desert-adapted wildlife that inhabits this area, our itinerary and route may be adjusted based on the group’s fitness level and preferred walking distance each day.
Each morning, we’ll set out on foot to track wildlife, pausing for brunch or lunch along the way. In the afternoons, after some rest, we’ll embark on game drives in open 4×4 safari vehicles, soaking in the stunning scenery. Namibia’s Damaraland is undeniably one of Africa’s most beautiful regions, with vast, undeveloped areas where wildlife roams freely outside of national parks.
All camping essentials are provided, so you’ll only need to bring your personal belongings. Our campsites are equipped with dome tents, stretchers with comfortable mattresses, sleeping bags, and pillows. We’ll also set up bush showers, hand and face wash basins, and bush toilet facilities. Camping chairs and tables will be available for you to enjoy your meals during the day. With just six people in the group, you’ll have a more intimate experience and a better chance to get up close to the wildlife. We anticipate sightings of the famed Desert Adapted Lions, Leopards, Jackals, Spotted and Brown Hyenas, Springbok, Kudu, Oryx, Elephants, Giraffes, Hartmann’s Mountain Zebras, and Black Rhinos. We’re also hopeful to encounter some of the region’s predators, including Cheetahs.
DAY 7:
Return to Palmwag (Overnight: Palmwag Lodge) – This morning, we’ll embark on our final walk in the area, followed by breakfast. Afterward, we’ll head back to Palmwag Lodge, where we’ll spend the last night of this incredible walking safari. In the afternoon, you have the option to join an additional game drive offered by the lodge.
DAY 8:
Return to Windhoek – After breakfast this morning, we will begin our journey back to Windhoek, Namibia’s capital.
You’ll have the opportunity to explore some of Windhoek’s top attractions, including the National Museum of Namibia, Daan Viljoen Game Park, and the iconic Christuskirche.
An additional night in Windhoek can be included in the itinerary if desired.*
